History: Wiki link for history
Shisui was born into the Uchiha clan of Konoha, one of the many ninja clans in his world. Shisui grew up during the Third Great Ninja war (which ended when he was about eight). The same war is noted to have made his cousin abhor violence and killing, so it’s safe to say growing up during the war was a pretty traumatic and shaping experience for Shisui. Unfortunately for Shisui, after the War ended, another war loomed on his horizon. The Uchiha were well known for their powerful bloodline limit the Sharingan and their skill in fighting. They were head of Konoha’s military police, but their star was actually very low in the sky as Shisui grew up. His clan felt pressured and persecuted by Konoha and wanted to regain their old prestige and power. To do this, they began plotting a coup de ta, which greatly shaped Shisui’s life and ultimately caused his death.

Shisui was hailed as one of the most talented Uchiha, mastering the technique of the “body flicker” which allowed him to move faster than sight. He was also well known for his expertise in working genjutsu (illusions). While loyal outwardly to his clan and their ambition for war and greater recognition, he believed that a true ninja should act for peace from the shadows, something their plotted coup de ta to gain more power was in opposition to. Shisui’s closest friend in his clan was Uchiha Itachi, the clan’s other genius and the son of the clan head. The two were close enough that Shisui managed to pass on his ideology to Itachi, and were said to be as close as brothers. After Itachi joined ANBU and began acting strangely, Shisui was asked to spy on Itachi and report his findings to the clan. As Shisui and Itachi collaborated together to find their own way of stopping the coup without violence, it’s unlikely Shisui reported everything to his clan, placing Shisui’s loyalties more in line with Konoha, Itachi, and peace.

However, even after his death, none of the Uchiha could believe Shisui was anything but completely loyal to their cause, which means Shisui was very good at appearing to be what he was not (even better than Itachi, it seems, since Itachi had aroused the clan’s suspicions). Itachi and Shisui planned to use Shisui’s kotoamatsukami (a technique that forced the victim to follow one commands no matter what) to stop the coup, but their plans were destroyed when Shisui’s eye was stolen. Danzou, a man also living in the shadows and trying to protect Konoha in his own way, attempted to steal Shisui’s eye. He managed to get one, and instead of allowing the attack to become known and starting a war, Shisui planned to cover up the assault. Shisui gave his remaining eye to Itachi for safe keeping. In the eye, Shisui implanted a final command to protect Konoha at all costs for Itachi to use at his discretion. Shisui then asked Itachi to kill him, which would allow Itachi to gain the Mangekyou Sharingan, a powerful but destructive form of their natural sharingan. Itachi agreed to kill Shisui, and drowned his best friend in the river Naka. To keep anyone from thinking his eyes were the cause of his death, Shisui made it look like he had crushed his eyes instead of having them removed. Shisui also made certain his body was destroyed so it couldn’t be used in any way against Itachi or his village after his death, basically erasing his entire existence in an attempt to help create peace.

Appearance: Shisui with one eye. Shisui without eyes. With a little color now.

Personality: Growing up during war, Shisui gained a unique view of himself and the world around him. He holds peace above the well being of any one person, especially ninja. Ninja and their deeds, he believes, should be confined to the darkness, meaning praise for killing and destruction shouldn’t happen. He doesn’t seek recognition for himself, going as far to erase his existence after death, and tends to look down on others who flaunt their violent deeds. This doesn’t mean he doesn’t get recognition or sometimes feels pride for his accomplishments. He does, and it often makes him feel guilty because he cannot live up to his ideal.

Shisui is the kind of person, while hailed a genius and one of the most talented Uchiha of his time, who doesn’t worry much about things like that. This allows him to focus on his skills, and not resent people who rise up to oust him from his position of genius. Shisui doesn’t care about his own prestige or reputation. He’s content to be forgotten, though he didn’t manage it as well as could have been hoped. Shisui avoids most notice by being what people expect him to be, and coming off as trifle absent minded and not quite grounded in reality. He hides his quick and very inquisitive mind behind structured politeness, a genial smile and a small doses of slightly absurd antics. No one can deny he’s clever, but it doesn’t always seem like a very applicable cleverness. By being what people expect and having them look no deeper, he allowed his clan to see someone devoted enough to the clan to spy on his best friend when Shisui would actually do no such thing.

Shisui does hold his clan in high esteem. They always took care of him and they shaped his life. Shisui has a deep respect for all authority figures, even if he doesn’t always agree with what those figures think. This doesn’t mean he won’t stand up against injustice, but he’ll likely do it from the shadows and try to avoid any open conflict. Instead of letting his clan’s plans be known, Shisui plotted to resolve the tension without outside help or letting word get out, as this would both ruin his clan’s reputation and possibly start a war.

Shisui is a problem-fixer. Born in the tight-knit police community, Shisui was raised by parents and people whose job was to solve problems. He learned the importance of diffusing a situation before it got too hot to handle, and how important talking someone to your side can be without letting them know you’re talking them to your side. Shisui likes to use his words to convince people before resorting to his Sharingan because it’s more fun that way and he always feels a bit nasty twisting people’s minds around to get his way. He feels a lot can be accomplished with words and proper body language before you need to resort to genjutsu. His fascination with the mind and how it can be influenced extends into his passion and excellence in genjutsu.

When it comes to genjutsu, Shisui can get carried away. His skills with manipulation culminates in his Kotoamatsukami, what he considers the pinnacle of genjutsu. As an expert in genjutsu, Shisui’s life and thoughts are very much wrapped up in deception and altered perceptions of reality. He must constantly find new ways to trick others mind’s while keeping his own firmly grounded in reality. It’s easier for Shisui to be false and project the desired image of himself people want to see. He also understands the importance of not losing track of himself or his own ideals. Shisui has places or things that are real, that he can hold and clear his mind or that he can go to and be himself with no expectations. He’s also this way around those he’s very close to.

Shisui is quick. His brain and body are conditioned for speed due to his perfection of the body flicker technique. This means sometimes careful thought gives way to instinct, because it’s better to not run into that tree then see the tree, think you’re going to hit it, then dodge (and hit it because you wasted time thinking). Unfortunately, this sometimes translates to actions and decisions that don’t involve flickering, especially after he’s just finished moving. While coming down from the jittering adrenaline Shisui is mostly likely to do or think the first thing that comes to his mind. Being a teenager and convinced of his own immortality, Shisui can get benignly drunk on life and do very normal stupid teenager things (like drinking and blowing fireballs). Even ninja deserve to have a little fun.

While he thinks the perfect ninja is one who namelessly keeps peace from the shadows, Shisui doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with being a ninja. Everyone deserves to have some fun no matter their job. The minds needs to unwind and destress every once in awhile.

Shisui can be overconfident in his own abilities, considering himself the fastest. He can get caught up in the moment, or lose his temper, much as anyone else. He’s more likely to lose his temper with people he’s close to, or anyone who attacks someone he’s fond of. He’s extremely goal-oriented, and will do anything he needs to do to accomplish his objectives, even if it means going to pretty hideous or damaging extremes. He can get carried away with plans and ideas, fascinated by possibilities, but he will always choose the plan he thinks is most likely to work, no matter the cost.

Around people he knows very, very well, Shisui doesn’t hold himself to any standards or ideals. He is himself in his truest form, a very open person who’s not afraid to ask questions, hurt, or be hurt. Truth is always the most important thing to Shisui in a close relationship. In a life where lies and secrets are common place, Shisui needs some breathing room where he knows what is real to escape to. With those he’s closest to, Shisui can forgive almost anything, mostly because he doesn’t have many people to be close to. He can be pushy when he thinks someone’s doing something wrong, and meddles in every little problem. If he is your friend--your very good friend--then he should have a finger in all your pies too. He’s also a little overprotective of his friends, allowing very little to be done or said to them before he buts in.

Abilities:
-Shisui has perfected the ninja technique of the body flicker, earning himself the name Shunshin no Shisui. This technique allows the user to move almost faster than sight.
-Shisui has what ninja call chakra, a magical force that allows them to use various jutsu, strengthen their blows, and stick to things.
-Shisui has spent a lifetime how to fight armed and unarmed. He’s got fighting skills he’d still be able to use, though he’ll have to adapt to having no chakra and no eyesight.
-Shisui had the Sharingan, but having no eyes, that’s a moot point.

Other: I talked with the Itachi-mun about Shisui and Itachi’s relationship.
-Shisui has recently been blinded and will be learning how to get around and read braille.
-For his eyes, Shisui would most likely have an integrated implant, more specifically a multipurpose conical orbital implant that will allow for some movement and less risk of infection and irritation.
-Having just been drowned, Shisui will be avoiding all but the smallest bodies of water for a while.
